Marylands Boarding House

‘My wife and I have a combined 15 years experience in Battle Abbey’s Boarding Community and lead the Marylands site ably assisted by our team of dedicated matrons (and our three daughters!) As a family we were offered the opportunity to open and develop the Marylands Sixth Form Boarding House when the school purchased the property six years ago. During this time we have had the privilege of seeing around 60 boarders arrive and subsequently leave to go onto the next phase of their life, usually at either top Universities or jobs and apprenticeships around the world.

Maryland’s is a fantastic modern Boarding House that is split into two halves. It currently houses 20 boarders of whom 50% are British and 50% come from around the world. The house offers pupils the perfect platform to develop and grow as they transition from Sixth Form pupil to University undergraduate, or indeed to the working world. We want their time with us to be the ideal foundation for them to build on and Marylands offers residents a stable environment where they can develop the life skills they will need for the next step of their journey. The systems in place allow us to monitor and assist with students general well-being, whilst supporting and pushing them academically. For us it’s more than a job, it’s a way of life and we all find it a real joy to play a small, but significant part in the pupils academic and personal journeys.’.
